Emirates lounges, Dubai International Airport

At Dubai International airport one can find seven Emirates lounges across Concourses A, B and C. Out of these, the first class lounge comes fully loaded. We’re talking designer showers and bathrooms, premium wines and spirits, day spa, beauty salon, meeting rooms, iMacs and charging stations. Lounges were previously only open to higher-tier frequent flyer members and first-class travelers. But Emirates has now opened its lounges to all passengers.

Best part: You have to love the fact that you can board your flight directly through the lounge, which is very convenient.

British Airways Concorde Room, London Heathrow Airport

The Concorde room is the epitome of sophistication and style, available at Heathrow Terminal 5. This unique home away from home offers you intimate dining in private cabanas, thus ensuring the privacy you wish for. The lounge also offers work & entertainment zones so you can continue to work throughout your time at the airport. Pre-flight dining is also available for those departing from London Heathrow after 8pm.

Best part: The best part of the lounge is its terrace, which looks out over the terminal and is “open air”.

Qantas First Class lounge, Sydney Airport

The architecture and interiors of the Qantas lounge in Sydney are the most talked about. It has dramatic wooden ceiling spars cambered like the inside of an airplane wing. To add to its beauty, the lounge has a wall completely covered with plants- yes they’re real! There are also two meeting rooms with their own iMac, printer/copier, landline telephone, sofa and even a large flat-screen TV. The Qantas spa offers facials, massages, even foot and leg wraps – lasting from 30 minutes to 50 minutes, all performed by trained professionals in lush private rooms with their own shower. Unlike many other lounges, this lounge also has a library set aside for avid readers.

Best part: The best part about this lounge is that the restaurant meals and spa treatments are free for all! It doesn’t matter if you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum cardholder or booked on the cheapest economy seat.

The Etihad Diamond lounge has classic and luxurious interiors what Etihad describes as “the ultimate expression of 21st-century Arabian modernism.” Its facilities for all include the spa, salon, fitness center, children’s room, dining, bar, and seating area. A separate, private facility is present for customers of The Residence, Etihad’s ultra-premium product available only onboard A380s. At the end of the dining area is located the cigar lounge that offers high-class cigars and Cohibas for free. The Etihad spa offers a complimentary shave/ hair-trim to first class customers. They are also given the choice of a free 15-minute spa or nail treatment. Between the spa and salon is a gym for those who love gymming and a play area for tiny tots.

Among all the lounges listed in this blog, Cathay Pacifics First class lounge wins the title of the ‘lounge with the classiest entryway’. The lounge has about a dozen private rooms, called The Retreat. The views from these rooms are marvelous, especially for aviation geeks. There is also a business center with iMacs and other types of equipment. The lounge also offers complimentary 10-minute foot massages and shoulder/neck treatments. When it comes to food, all Cathay Pacific’s lounges out do themselves. Whether it is the snacks or the main course, these lounges set themselves apart from many others in the world.

Best part: The best part is definitely the restaurant-style ‘Noodle Bar’ where one can order freshly made bowls of dan noodles at any hour.
